China: Children Use Mesh Food Covers To Catch Fish On Flooded Streets In Zhoukou

On July 18, 2024, in Zhoukou, a city in eastern Henan Province, China, locals found an innovative way to deal with the aftermath of recent rains. The downpour had caused pond water to overflow onto the streets, bringing small fish along with it. Adults and children alike took advantage of the situation by catching small fish using mesh covers that are typically used to protect food from flies and mosquitoes. They successfully gathered many, collecting them in buckets as an unexpected urban fishing opportunity.
